Unlocking Stranded Deepwater Reserves With Modular, Low-Emission Offshore Production

Upcycling idle drilling units into powerful, flexible, and emissions-reducing Mobile Offshore Production Units.

About Modular MOPU

Modular MOPU is an energy technology company delivering modular offshore production solutions that unlock high-return deepwater opportunities by repurposing existing offshore assets into Mobile Offshore Production Units. Built on dynamically positioned Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs), each Modular MOPU enables rapid deployment and flexible field development without relying on export pipelines or new fixed infrastructure.

Modular MOPU integrates proven three-phase processing with optional advanced gas-conversion capability through its proprietary 4th Phase Processing System. This allows operators to capture and use associated gas as fuel, reinject it, or convert it into value-added products such as hydrogen, carbon black, or synthetic fuels, reducing routine flaring and supporting lower-emission production.

Mission

Modular MOPU’s mission is to accelerate low-emission offshore production by eliminating infrastructure bottlenecks, reducing time to first oil, and converting associated gas into useful energy and products through modular, redeployable systems.

Modular MOPU supports Energy Transition. Our modular solutions reduce or eliminate routine flaring and can convert natural gas—via optional processing modules—into hydrogen, carbon black, or synthetic fuels. This approach supports lower-emission production while recycling MODUs to reduce environmental footprint.

Oil + Hydrogen + Carbon Black

A Modular MOPU equipped with plasma-based pyrolysis processes natural gas into hydrogen and solid carbon black.

Oil + Low-Emission Synthetic Fuel (GTL)

A Modular MOPU integrates compact gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology to convert field gas into synthetic liquids.

Oil + Power for Data Centers

A Modular MOPU uses field gas to generate power for modular data-center units installed on board.

Technology Overview

Modular MOPU integrates proven three-phase processing systems with optional advanced gas-conversion modules, including pyrolysis and GTL technology. Each unit is built on a dynamically positioned Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU), which allows rapid deployment, flexible field development, and redeployment at end of field life. The system can be designed to handle from 5 to 50 MMscf per day of natural gas and supports oil production rates up to at least 60,000 BOPD.

Patent-pending 4th Phase system

Modular MOPU’s integrated production and gas-conversion architecture is the subject of pending patent applications. This includes the 4th Phase Processing System, which adds onboard gas-conversion modules (such as pyrolysis and GTL units) on top of standard three-phase oil, gas, and water processing. It also includes our Subsea Gathering System, which routes multiple subsea wells efficiently into a mobile, dynamically positioned host.

Modular offshore production that accelerates first oil and lowers emissions

Modular MOPU deploys modular processing on repurposed Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) to bring production online faster, reduce capital intensity, and improve operator control. Optional gas-conversion modules can reduce or eliminate routine flaring and convert natural gas into hydrogen, carbon black, or synthetic fuels, supporting lower-emission offshore development.

Deepwater Development Advantage

Reduce CAPEX, shorten time to first oil, and develop fields without relying on export pipelines. Modular MOPU improves operator control and field performance with flexible, redeployable infrastructure.

Lower-Emission Production

Reduce or eliminate routine flaring with optional processing modules that convert natural gas into higher-value products, including hydrogen, carbon black, or synthetic fuels. Repurposing existing MODUs also reduces the environmental footprint of new offshore infrastructure.
